Launch Windows Task Manager
In a Terminal Services / Citrix Environment
The Problem
If the Adminsoft / GECL software locks up for some reason (e.g. you mis-typed
your password three times in a row, or some low level problem has caused it
to hang), you need to
be able to end the task. Normally you just press <Ctrl-Alt-Del> to
launch the Windows Task Manager, select Applications, highlight the crashed
application, and click the "End Task" button. However, in a Terminal
Services or Citrix Client environment, <Ctrl-Alt-Del> merely launches the Task Manager on your
local computer, not the one associated with your Terminal Services or Citrix
Client session.
The Solution
Fortunately there is another way to launch the Windows Task Manager.
In your Terminal Services session, right-click on an empty part of the
Windows Task Bar (not on any task buttons within it), and select "Task
Manager from the pop-up menu. You can then select the GECL application, and click
"End Task".
Note that it is a good idea to "Reindex all files" after a system crash -
just in case one or more index files were damaged in the crash - or perhaps
a damaged index file caused the crash in the first place. A complete
run through "Reindex all files" is also a good test to ensure that the data
files themselves have not been damaged as a result of the crash.
